
This month the Golden Apple was awarded by June recipient Emily Staley to Jen Granducci. Ms. Granducci teaches English at WMRHS and Ms. Staley selected her because she makes a positive difference and lasting impact on her students. She makes sure her classroom is a safe and friendly environment, and her teaching skills are "par to none." Congratulations Ms. Granducci on being selected as the Golden Apple recipient by your colleague for the month of September.

White Mountains Regional High School is proud to announce that senior Katryna Dube has been named a recipient of the College Board National Recognition Certificate. To be considered students must: Take the PSAT/NMSQT® in October of their junior year. Achieve the top 10% PSAT/NMSQT scores in NH. Earn a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher by the middle of their junior year. Identify as African American, Hispanic or Latinx, Indigenous and/or attend school in a rural area or small town. The benefits of this award are to create pathways to college for students from underserved communities by awarding them academic honors and connecting them with universities across the country. Katryna is currently completing her senior year of high school while attending The Clarkson School in Potsdam, NY. She is taking college courses on campus which also fulfill her required courses at WMRHS. As a Spartan she is a member of National Honor Society, was a three sport athlete, and a member of the band. Congratulations Katryna!


Members of the Class of 1973 celebrated their 50th class reunion last weekend. Some of the class visited WMRHS on Saturday for a tour and a walk down memory lane with their classmates. Thanks for visiting - once a Spartan, always a Spartan!


WMRHS is pleased to announce the addition of new course for the 2023-2024 school year, German 1. Our new English teacher, Mr. Caswell, joins us with an extensive background in German and will be building a German program for students interested in learning to speak, read, and write in German and learn about the culture as well. Those students interested may sign up for German 1 by contacting their school counselor before school starts.

Happy Summer! Student schedules will be emailed to students on Wednesday, July 19. Please have your student check their email for their schedule for the 2023-2024 school year. If you have questions, please reach out to the appropriate school counselor.

Chef Matt Holland's students experienced catering at the WMCC Golfing the Gap Tournament which was held at the Maplewood CC in Bethlehem on June 22nd.
Mariyah Shaw and Timothy Bradley are both entering their senior year and are "Year Three Culinary Arts" students. Another example of authentic learning and community service from two dedicated Spartans.


WMRHS Staff Person of the Year 2023 - Ms. Bethany Ridley...this is a long standing tradition at Sparta dating back to 1997. This honor is open to any staff person who has worked at WMRHS for 10 or more years. The WMRHS staff votes each spring with recipient receiving his or her "honorary chair" at the last full staffing in June. Congrats to Ms. Ridley for such a well deserved award!


Golden Apple Recipient for June - Ms. Emily Staley...each month a staff member is highlighted for all that he or she does to make Sparta a better place for the overall school community. This month Cindy Boivin (month of May recipient) recognized Emily Staley for her efforts. Ms. Staley goes far and beyond her daily duties to make sure the students she interacts and educates has all their basic needs met. Congrats to Ms. Staley for being such a caring and positive educator!


Congratulations to WMRHS Teacher Sarah Slater-Sosa on winning the 2023 Aquarion Environmental Champion Award. Ms. Slater-Sosa is a distinguished environmental leader and educator, recognized for her unwavering commitment to sustainability. As a founding leader of the Society of Sustainable Spartans (SOSS) at White Mountains Regional High School , she has guided students in achieving significant waste and energy reductions. Her initiatives include the replacement of traditional lights with energy-efficient LEDs, the implementation of a paper recycling program, and the establishment of a composting program.
In addition to these efforts, Slater-Sosa has played a crucial role in organizing annual Earth Day celebrations, inspiring and educating students on environmental issues. As an environmental teacher, she has advocated for the protection of the local environment, leading the Outdoor Learning Spaces project and collaborating with local conservation committees to plan a regional Sustainable Culture event.
Beyond her environmental leadership, Slater-Sosa has a diverse background in education, science, and leadership roles. She currently serves as a certified Life Sciences and Physical Science teacher, the Science Department Head, and a member of the Building Leadership Team at WMRHS. She also co-advises the Sustainability Club and coaches the JV Girls Soccer team.
Slater-Sosa's academic achievements include a Master’s degree in Public Health and a Master’s degree in Education Leadership in Curriculum Administration from Southern New Hampshire University. She also studied Education at Keene State College and completed independent studies in Geology, Earth Science, and Environmental Science at Concordia University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry.
Her leadership and commitment have positively impacted both White Mountains Regional High School and the wider community, demonstrating her dedication to fostering a sustainable future. We are thrilled to have Sarah as one of our distinguished teachers at WMRHS.

Sparta announced the James Swenson Athletic Award at Spartan Spotlight today. The award is presented to a person who has demonstrated the qualities of dedication, attention to detail, and professionalism. This year's recipient is Mrs. Sue Chancey!


Underclassmen Awards Night correction - Underclassmen Awards will take place on Wednesday, June 14th, in the auditorium at WMRHS, not Wednesday, June 16th as stated in the letters mailed to families of recipients. We apologize for this error. We hope to see you there for the recognition of students in grades 9-11 for their academic excellence at 6:00pm.

WMRHS Seniors traveled to Milford, NH on May 24th to be recognized with other seniors from around the state as NH Scholars. Students engaged in activities and listened to speakers from around the state.
